From Newtonmore take the Glen road to the end where there is a parking area. The cache is on A' Chailleach, a 930 metre Munro. You will be walking on rough ground, the heather is very dense in parts and there are a number of burns to negotiate. The ground underfoot can be very wet. Do not attempt to cross the river Allt a Chaorainn, there is a footbridge below the Ford marked on the map. Newer maps have this marked but it does not appear on older maps.
The Highland Geofairy has hidden this cache to tempt you here to explore the area. On a clear day the views are just stunning, if the clouds should be low - well you will get a good walk if nothing else.
The cache container is a small lock and lock type, with a log book, pencil and a few trade items. There is a rather special gift for the first to find, and a request, please remove all three travel bugs to get them moving on again, as I do not expect this cache to receive many visits. Thank you.
Please trade fairly, trade even or trade up. Take all your rubbish home with you and pick up anything you might come across along the way, unless it's an Elephant !
You must be adequately prepared to hunt for this cache. You will need to know how to use a map and a compass, and remember to take them with you together with the basics for a day in the mountains. If you do not know what these are you should not be heading out.
When setting out to place this cache I was accompanied by Moira McLeod and her Golden Retriever Maisie. As we were approaching the final ascent to the summit Maisie was seen chasing a Mountain Hare. That was the last time we saw her for some days. I then received a 'phone call to say Maisie had been found, and this extract below is taken from an email that Moira sent to me:-
"She was found in a bothy up above Coignafearn Lodge which is miles away and actually she probably did come down the way we went yesterday but headed off up the other route we saw on our way back. However when you look at the map there are no paths so she must have skirted around the hills and by luck came upon this bothy. Win and Alex an elderly couple who walk a lot and know this route up from Coignafearn Lodge found her and took her to the nearest house on their way back down to get the lady there to phone the number on her tag. They said they would be about an hour before they reached their car so Sam and I had just arrived by about 5 mins when they appeared. You have to drive to Tomatin and then turn left - its a lovely valley by the way. When I saw Maisie in the distance I shouted and she came bounding across so it was a lovely welcome, all she wanted tho was to get into the back of the car and didn't look at any food until we arrived home.
So glad to have a happy ending."
