Asztag-ko, one of the offset cliffs of south Mátra
WAP: there is a tree with 3 bodies in the southern sheer stony wall in front of the rock. The small cache is hidden near this tree in a cave covered with stones.
The birth of this place is thanks to a geyser with warm water and its subsistence is to the resistant hidrokvarcit material.
Availability: in free-style mode as there is no path leading to the cache. You may choose among the following possibilities:
a) From the motorway between Gyöngyös and Gyöngyössolymos turn to North, for drive-in cachers till the west part of the mountain (coloured with white in the 3D map, 4 km from Gyöngyössolymos). You can park here and go by foot straight away 260 meters in the bushes which means ca. 60 m level increase and some stone ruins. This way is not recommended for families with babies and bicyclists.
b) The east side offers a more friendly access on path from Gyöngyössolymos till the fence now under construction (this is 4 km far from Gyöngyössolymos). Before the fence turn to left and go 400 m in the forest right to the cache. You can also mix a) and b) versions, go to the parking place indicated in GCGYS and walk on path 2700 m long.
c) We recommend this trip in the period of May-September when the open-air train operates from Gyöngyös or Gyöngyössolymos till Lajosháza. (Timetable can be found itt). From Lajosháza it is not so far away and it is worth seeing petika's GCsihu cache. The best and lightest way to the rock is this one.
There is a beautiful view from the cliff to Kékesteto (to east) and the Világos (Kopasz) mountain (to west) and the 600 meters high Havas peak.
