Geocache Description:

Cross Slieve, Cushendall. Can be accessed from the Layde Road near the mobile mast site. Wear stout boots and use the gate beside the road that is backed with a simple concrete cattle pen. You have permission to walk up the fields, past a clump of trees, through two gates and over one style. No dogs please and don't block the gate at the road! You get a nice panorama of the inner Glens and across the Sea of Moyle.

Ellen's Lough is at the summit of Cross Slieve (203m) and has been cleaned up and re-stocked with fish. There is no need to cross over the head ditch as you will be standing very close to the cache. Take in the surroundings and you are rewarded with nice views of Glencorp, Glendun and Cushleake mountain. The small lough takes its name from Ellen McCambridge (circa 1838), from Scotland, who married a local lad and lived in a homestead beside the big lonesome sycamore tree that can be seen about 2km away in a southerly direction. She is reputed to spend time near this spot reflecting on life back in her native land.
