The Smurfz take a trip back to May 9, 1887. To Holliday's Cove which is now apart of Weirton.
While looking up history of Weirton Wv I came across this little bit of info of Holliday's Cove that is now part of Weirton. This story caught my eye and I did some research of it. It gave alot of different stories and locations for the story every where I looked. I took the info from the Local Library for this info.
The cache is in a area within the info given for the story that I can figure out. Since you can not get near the school due to the fence around it and not sure if anyone is permitted near it.(The school has now been torn down since I listed this cache.) Also the tracks are close but a safe distance away from the cache that I have placed. I will say please becareful of muggles due to the high traffic of them in the area. It is a parking lot.
This is the story as it was found:
Brutal double ax-murder in Holliday's Cove near Cove School, near where railroad (and crossing at Cove Road) is being built. Convicted of killing widow Drusilla McWha and her daughter Eliza Baker is Eliza's husband, teacher Van Buren Baker, who dies seven years later in prison still insisting he didn't do it.
I am glad that I looked up the history of the town. I will be doing some more history location caches due to my now high interest in them. I hope you enjoy this cache.
Also this cache was placed 121 years from the date of this brutal double ax-murder. Some people said it was in bad taste to do it on the same day but I did it in remembrance of the two women in the story.
