This sign at the trailhead says Fort Pelham is .6 miles.
Fort Pelham was one of a line of forts that were constructed during
the French and Indian War to protect the Massachusetts frontier and
its principal town, Deerfield, against enemy attacks.
It was a stockaded place enclosing a well a small magazine and a
gun mount with quarters for twenty men underneath. The gate was on
the North side. No action ever took place here. The Fort was
abandoned in 1754.
