This cache has been archived.

lpyankeefan: Final cache edits have now been made to the cache page. I was a little heavy handed on the archive button this morning. I'll blame it on a lack of sleep!!!! [:O]

Geocache Description:

First in the 2008 Summer Of Fun event series.

We have a couple local cachers who are almost old enough to remember this art form, and wasted some college credit on Tie-Dye classes while finding their way to an education. This seems like a great opportunity to share this incredibly valuable knowledge?!

Where: Fairgrounds Park at the Playground Pavilion
When: 10:30 AM until 12:00 Noon
Why: Meet, talk geocaching, trade bugs and greet the unofficial start of summer by tye dyeing some items!!!

We will be providing everything but the Garments to Tie Dye.

Please Bring 1 item Only to Tie Dye, as we will be purchasing supplies based on 1 item per person signed up for the event. But don't fret, You will leave this event with enough knowledge to have fun tie dying on your own! It is really very easy these days.

OK, some BEFORE EVENT INSTRUCTIONS are in order...

What to Dye ?
Make sure your fabric is 100% cotton and a light color. Polyester, or Synthetic materials will not accept the dye.

Your Projects can include Shirts, Skirts, Tennis shoes, Socks, Bandanas, etc. (Shorts, or Pants can be done dependent on the availability of dye left at end of event. Unfortunately, These items take much more dye, and they will be given last priority, but bring them if you are interested in dying a pair. We can at least share some ideas with those interested.)

Prewash Item
Brightest colors are achieved on prewashed fabrics – this removes the sizing and allows the dyes to penetrate deeply into the fibers. Make sure you rinse them very thoroughly. Do not use water softener or dryer sheets.

What to Wear?
#1. Wear the gloves provided.
#2. Wear the gloves provided.
#3. Wear the gloves provided.
(you get the picture... It takes about a week for the dye to wear off, and they are dark, so be sure to keep your hands covered. We will have plenty of latex gloves, so if a glove gets a hole in it, take the time to put a new one on. You will be happy you did.)

The dye is permanent, so wear clothing and shoes that will not be a big deal if dye gets on them. It can get messy!

Instructions for after Dye is set... (After the Event).

Tie-Dye will be ready to wash 6-8 hours after event.

• Cut rubber bands if used.
• Rinse in Cold water, until water runs clear.
• Fill washer to large load setting with hottest water suitable for fabric and a small amount of laundry soap. Wash and dry separately.

Shared FTF honors got to foomanjoo, forest22, and lalynya!!! Congratulations you three!!!
