Geocache Description:

Located near the site of the National Rolley Hole Marble Championships.

This cache is a small plastic container containing a log and a few small trade items. BYOP.

Many older folks from this area of the country played marbles as children. They were a constant sight at school yards in the early twentieth century. Since 1983, Standing Stone State Park has hosted the annual National Rolley Hole Marble Championships in September. The game of Rolley Hole is also known as Three Hole, Poison, or Granny Hole. Oral traditions place the game in pre-Civil War times. The Cherokee that were driven out of Tennessee and now live in Oklahoma play a game that is very similar to that of Rolley Hole. Two local men from Clay County, TN have won more than half of the competitions.
