Geocache Description:

This cache is located along the Russell Family Trails, part of the Hinesburg Area Recreational Trails system. The main trail (white on the above forementioned map) here is a nearly two miles long and loops around the perimeter of the working farm. This cache is located on a spur trail (blue on map) that leads to an overlook of the Village of Hinesburg. Simply follow the trail all the way. There is no need to bushwack. The Russell Family has very graciously given permission for geocachers to use these trails and only asks that everyone repect the animals and property.

"The land trust is made possible through the generosity of the Russell Family and many local donors, the 63 acres conserved by this project has preserved both a natural and cultural asset as the core of the village’s identity. The forested hillside is the scenic backdrop of the village, and the property includes a beautiful trail network accessible from the village center and available to residents throughout our community. The trails are not only for recreation but each spring allow access to the 1,300 sap buckets that have been hung on these trees for over 100 years. Right in the center of Hinesburg, people can see old-fashioned sugaring in action. Community members can watch and help in the process, from maple tree to evaporator. Where else can friends and family see a team of horses drawing sap on a historic village farm?"

To access the trail, park at Lyman Field, N 44° 19.670' W 73° 6.493'. The trail head is located at N 44° 19.746' W 73° 6.466' which is directly behind the ballfield backstop.
