Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches set at or near wells situated around Aberdeen. More information on the wells can be found on the Gibberie Wallie Well cache page.

Castlegate well is also known as The Mannie in The Green, as it spent 100 years in the area called 'The Green' before moving back to the Castlegate.

It is probably the most well known 'well' in the series! In it's heyday the well was never without a customer day or night and could only be used for drinking water. Clothes washing was not allowed and horses had to go to the river to drink.

The 'Mannie' atop the well was the only example of lead statuary in the Aberdeen district and therefore much admired.

Cache is a magnetic nano.

At the time of placing I could only obtain 30ft accuracy due to cloud cover.

The area around the well is still very busy even today, but the customers these days are often attending court across the road and on busy days photographers are seen hanging about waiting for some interesting pictures!
