Geocache Description:

The cache is a camouflaged micro located near the end of the South Inlet trail in False Cape State Park. Buswhacking is not necessary and is dangerous.

False Cape State Park in the southeast corner of Virginia is an isolated six mile long and one mile wide barrier spit between the Atlantic Ocean and the Back Bay. It is part of what is often referred to as "Virginia's Outer Banks".

Access to False Cape State Park is obtained by hiking or bicycling through the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge or by boating across the Back Bay. Parking is available at the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge visitor center
(3.3 miles from the False Cape State Park entrance) or at the Little Island City Park (a Virginia Beach city park
5.1 miles from the False Cape State Park entrance). Fees and access hours for these parking areas vary with the seasons.

A good view of the South Inlet is available from the platform at the end of the South Inlet trail. The South Inlet today is a remnant of an inlet that once connected the Back Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. It was closed by the forces of Mother Nature an unknown number of centuries ago. It could be reopened, however, at any time in the future by the right combination of storm and other natural forces.
