Geocache Description:

Easy cache and dash with a little bit of history. This is a series of caches placed along the old Kintore to Alford railway. Parking is where the local fishers head down to the river Don.

Within Kemnay it’s self nothing remains of the railway that not only served the local community, but was the main reason that Paradise quarry is what it is today. In as early as 1858 Mr Fyfe [who worked the quarry] requested that a siding was built but it was rejected on the basis that it was to close to Kemnay station. However he did get a reduced rate for all stone that was loaded there. Then within the year, his request was approved, and a tram way was laid into the quarry. This then became the only quarry on this route where the worked stone was loaded straight onto the wagons.

Kemnay actually had two stations built in the time that the rail line was working. The first one appears to be where the garage in the village is now. Then as the few scattered houses of Kemnay grew and a passing loop was needed, the station moved down to where the Milton Meadows houses are [about 300yards west]. It came into operation on July 1st 1901.

As the train left behind Kemnay, it was the only part of the route where the river Don could actually be seen.

This being the case [and with so little to see in Kemnay] I've placed the cache here.

Parking is available N57 13.481 W002 27.782

You will need to go over the fishers stile to get to this one.
