Geocache Description:

In Edmonton's river valley, near Highlands Golf Course, in a popular biking and off-leash dog-walking area.

This is our first hide and is named after our greyhound Luke (2001-2012, RIP, sweet boy). We placed it off the paved multi-use path that heads down to our favorite dog-walking spot in the river valley. Luke escaped during a thunderstorm in August, 2006, was missing for 2 days and we thought we might have lost him forever. He was spotted the day after he escaped on the river banks below this path, near the west end of Highlands golf course. We had posters plastered all over the area, including where where we hid this cache, and eventually a little fluffy white dog named Cisco found him, badly wounded and unable to move. Because Cisco is such a good dog-finder, his mom started carrying a cell phone only on dog walks so she could call about lost dogs. Luke owes her and Cisco his life, but they wouldn't take a reward, so we hid this cache as a big Thank You.

We first placed this cache right where where Cisco found Luke, but had to move it because it was a bit too close to another cache. It's now hidden on the way down to that spot, on our usual route down to the trails. FTF prize is a $5 2004 Elizabeth II silver coin and the cache includes other collectible coins and such. The path is easily accessible and can be busy, so watch for muggles. It's probably findable in the winter but only time will tell.
