Barna Woods - A nice walk through the woods and the country with a cache at the end of it!
Barna is a quiet, seaside village located 8km from Galway City along the R336 coast road. Barna Woods lie to the right as one drives from Galway, and the left turn brings the visitor to Silver Strand, one of Galway's most popular beaches. Fine views of the Burren Hills in Co Clare can be obtained from here, and the Aran Islands can also be seen when conditions are right.
Barna Woods has the last naturally growing oaks in the west of Ireland and are a conservation area, owned by Galway County Council.
The cache
The cache is a standard lunchbox hidden in the woods. Park at the co-ordinates shown here, and take a walk. The sports ground parking doubles as parking for this entrance to the woods. Walk across (or around) the sports grounds and into the woods. Then find the cache and explore the rest of the forest!!
The parking officially closes at 9pm, but you can park nearby or on a wide street after that. Not that I'd recommend walking in the woods anywhere in Ireland after 9pm with an expensive GPS.
City Direct Galway buses go down the nearby road, routes 34 and 37. Google them for timetables.
If you take/leave Travelbugs and Geocoins, dont forget to log it!
Hints get progressively more obvious from 1 to 3. Use as many as you need!
