Geocache Description:

Cache is a small tab lock box in a black sack, containing a log book, pencil and a few small trades. Cache site is mostly flat with very slight gradient changes.

The cache is placed within Clements Wood which can be accessed from the Ballygowan Road off the A8 near Larne.

Clements Wood is 8.6 acres of woodland, grassland, marshland with gravel, grass and wooden paths. The Inver River runs through the wood and there are seats along the way and some good views towards Larne. Some of the pathways are along an old dismantled railway which is barely visible now among the trees.
It is part of the Millennium Commissioned Woods on your Doorstep Project.
There are bluebells and anenomies in spring and lots of winter colour, making this a great place for a walk all year round. Wildlife abounds. It is a little hidden gem and well worth a visit.

The Royal Oak Grove was planted in 2004. Acorns were gathered from Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the Queen Mother, to be planted here, initiated by Roy Beggs, the local MP at Westminster. On 3rd Dec 2004, in a special tree planting ceremony, local children helped plant 600 saplings in a living, lasting tribute to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. The trees planted are Quercus robur otherwise known as English oak.
HRH Princess Anne visited here in 2005. She met schoolchildren from Moyle Primary School and also planted a tree to mark the completion of the project.

Parking is on the Ballygowan Road, but although there is a car park it can be locked. There is enough space at the gate for 1 or 2 cars if you park close to the fence. This is a good place for children, but keep an eye on them near the river.

As with all Woodland Trust sites, we must look after these green spaces and report any anomalies to the Trust or to ourselves through Geocaching.com
