Geocache Description:

This Gathering takes place on Saturday, October 18, 2008, the right time for Fall colors!

THIS MAY BE MY LAST YEAR TO HOLD THIS GATHERING , IF SOMEONE OR SOME GROUP WISHES TO CONTINUE FOR GATHERING VIII SEE ME AND I WILL BE GLAD TO HELP ALL I CAN...GAMMA KITT

PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE DESCRIPTION AND NOTE IT WILL HAVE ADDITIONS ETC. AS THE DATE DRAWS NEARER!
It will be held in Letchworth State Park in the same Pavilion as last year. There is a large parking lot with RestRooms near the Pavilion. TO VISIT THIS CACHE LISTING AGAIN USE ZIPCODE 14530.

The Park opens at 6 AM and closes at 10 PM. There is an entrance fee per car. If you want to camp or rent a cabin in the park, call 1-800-456-2267, or the Highbanks Tent and Trailer (camping) 1-800-237-3303. There are campgrounds and motels outside the Park in Mt. Morris & Perry, etc. PETS ARE PROHIBITED FROM ALL PARK BUILDINGS INCLUDING THE PAVILION, CABINS, CABIN AREAS, AND POOL AREAS. (7 Cacher Groups have indicated they will be in the Campsite 300 area one group is in the 200 Loop.)

NO PETS ARE ALLOWED AT THE GATHERING!!

The Pavilion, South Highbanks, is near the Mt. Morris Entrance in the area of the Swimming Pool. It has a capacity of 184 people, there are 23 tables. There are 8 grills in a covered vented area attached to the Pavilion. There are at least 5 or 6 electric outlets; at least 2 are required for coffee and hot water. There is running water just outside the Pavilion. There is a huge Fireplace inside at one end; WE HAVE 2 DONATIONS OF FIRE WOOD. There is a large play area with playground equipment for kids.

In the past some "early birds" have had breakfast; if you are interested log on and let others know before the 17th. This is a do it yourself situation. The shelter & it's facilities are available.

In past years we have had about 200 cachers getting together. As the date draws closer I will keep this notice updated with numbers etc.

Lunch starts about NOON. Everybody brings a dish to share or some contribution such as hamburgs, hotdogs, rolls, beverage, charcoal, or charcoal starter etc.. YOU WILL ALSO BE EXPECTED TO HELP COOK THE HOTS AND HAMBURGERS FOR YOUR FAMILY AND OTHERS. When you log on tell us HOW MANY will be in your group and what you will share or contribute to eat. I will keep this area updated as time draws nearer and cachers log on to summarize what others have volunteered to contribute so we don't have 50 macaroni salads etc.
THE FOOD, ETC. SO FAR IS: 80 HAMBURG PATTIES, ENOUGH HAMBURG ROLLS, 3 Lb. SAHLEN'S HOTDOGS, 3 LB. CONEYS, ENOUGH HOT DOG ROLLS, VEGETARIAN CHILI, MACARONI & CHEESE, 2 PASTA SALADS, TOMATO PASTA SALAD, SEAFOOD SALAD, GREEN SALAD, GEO DEVILED EGGS, DUTCH OVEN BAKED BEANS, BAKED BEANS, VEGETARIAN DISH, CHIPS, TACO CHIPS & DIP, CORN CHIPS & DIP, GOULASH, MACARONI TUNA SALAD, DESSERT PASTA SALAD, SHEET PIZZA, APPLESAUCE, LEMON CAKE, CHOCOLATE CAKE, APPLE PIE & PUMPKIN PIE (Perhaps), 4 DESSERTS (UNKNOWN), CHOC. CHIP COOKIES, 2 SETS OF BROWNIES, 2 SETS OF COOKIES, A DESSERT BAR, APPLES, 1 GAL.CIDER, SODA, WATER, 2 CATSUP, 2 MUSTARD, 2 RELISH, SALTS & PEPPERS, COFFEE & 2 COFFEE POTS, SUGAR, 2 CREAMERS, HOT CHOCOLATE MIX. WE ALSO HAVE ENOUGH CHARCOAL, AND CHARCOAL STARTED FLUID, COOKING UTENSILS, SERVING SPOONS, FOAM CUPS, HOT CUPS & COLD CUPS, A MIX OF PLASTIC, FOAM & HEAVY PAPER PLATES, ENOUGH PLASTIC WARE, NAPKINS, ELECTRIC EXTENSION CORDS.


The Picnic itself is usually over by about 4 PM you are asked to have your belongings out of the Pavilion by then so we can all help clean up.

As in the past we will have some great "For the Gathering only" caches hidden with co-ordinates posted at the Gathering site.
This year we will again have some special prizes to raffle off. ONE PRIZE IS AN ANTLER HANDLE FLINT BLADE KNIFE WITH A TOOLED LEATHER SHEATH MADE AND DONATED BY PALEOMAN; HONEYB HAS OFFERED ONE OF HER CRAFT PAINTINGS, HAND CARVED WALKING STICK (DONATED BY TEAMFROGGER), PRIZES PURCHASED WITH LAST YEAR'S RAFFLE MONEY: E-trex Summit with topo maps, Garmin Street Pilot C530, Leatherman utility tool, Hat clip lantern (flashlight), 3 Blaze orange hunter safety vests, Winchester Multi Tool, Water Tight Boxes, Waist Pack, 2 Hiking Poles, 2 Deep Woods Off, Morf Back Pack, Liquid Pack, 40 Can Cooler, 2 Sets of Batteries, TF Led Clip Light, 6 Piece large Multi Tool.
Not Bad for an Event Raffle Thanks To RoadKill for the purchases with your money. This will be his last year to do this for us.

A group picture or pictures are usually take after lunch about 1 or 1:30. Some Camper/Campers usually have a bonfire Saturday night. Note above some campers will be in the 300 Loop and some at Site 243.

KillerB is starting the weekend off big with a Camp Fire and cook out Event at "3RD ANNUAL OSAGE CAMPFIRE EVENT", the day and night of October 17th. Look for his listing on the Caching Page and let him know you will be there.

NOTE: What we carry in we must carry out, so help with clean up is assumed. I have many large black plastic bags left over from past Gatherings we can use.

We will allow some alcohol in moderation for adults as before. (I had to sign a special permit for that.) The State Trooper Barracks are right next door. so watch your step. (HEE! HEE!)

You are on your own with Travel Bugs, bring them and trade them among yourselves.
