Geocache Description:

THE CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES!

This is a puzzle cache designed to celebrate Salt Lake's crown jewel, Sugarhouse Park.

Solving the puzzle will provide you with the coordinates of the cache and involves working a fun crossword puzzle and taking a short walk or bike ride through the park.  Following are step-by-step instructions for the puzzle:

Step 1

Step 2

Print this Aerial View of Sugarhouse Park.  Hint:  You may be able to get a better and larger printout by saving the image to your computer and then printing it with a utility such as Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

The green squares in the crossword correspond to the red squares on the aerial view.

Step 3

Visit Sugarhouse Park, taking the 2 printouts and this cache listing with you.

Note:  You may be tempted to use Google Earth for this step; however, keep in mind that such action could result in an unstable temporal rift event leading to the degradation of a significant segment of the space-time continuum.

Walk to each of the 6 squares indicated in red in the photo.

In each of the 6 areas, identify one of the following photographs:

Photo 1

Photo 2

Photo 3

Photo 4

Photo 5

Photo 6

Step 4

Based on your findings, fill in the following table:

Photo Number Intersection Where Found Letter From Puzzle Alpha Sequence

1
2
3
4
5
6

"Intersection" is the coordinates of the red square, such as B5, where the photo was found.  Note:  Some of the photos may be on or close to a border making it difficult to determine which square they are in.  No problem, just be sure to list the red square's coordinates.

"Letter From Puzzle" is the corresponding green square letter from the crossword.

"Alpha Sequence" is the conversion of the letter to a number (A=1, Z=26).

Step 5

The cache is at:  N 40 43.ABC   W 111 50.DEF

To obtain ABC, sequentially list the alpha sequences for the first 3 photos:

This gives a single number:  ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___

Now, add to the above number the number of letters in the crossword solution:

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ + ___ ___ = ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___

Finally, subtract 191,255 from the above result:

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ - 191,255 = ABC

Step 6

To obtain DEF, sequentially list the alpha sequences for the last 3 photos:

This gives a single number:  ___ ___ ___ ___ ___

Now, add to the above number the number of letters in the crossword solution:

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ + ___ ___ = ___ ___ ___ ___ ___

Finally, subtract 51,451 from the above result:

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ - 51,451 = DEF

If everything is just right, A+B+C+D+E+F should be 20.

Step 7

Plug in ABC and DEF to get the coordinates:

N 40 43.___ ___ ___

W 111 50.___ ___ ___

Step 8

Go get it!  Due to challenging reception in the area, a detailed hint is included.
