The Corners of El Corazon #3: Given to the City in 1994, the
project to redevelop El Corazon has taken 14 years and counting and
often progress seems to stop. Yours won’t, however. Log only.

After a couple tricky hides this one is for the beginners. Since we
all already know who is going to grab this first, I’m just going to
set a stopwatch and prepare myself for amazement.
This location is very close to the actual corner of our city’s
biggest project. Signal reception here is great, the walk is easy,
the find should be quick.

One of my favorite hides to find is a creative urban micro, easy to
get to but a challenge to find. This one’s not a challenge, but a
good beginner find. Weekends are for the hiking caches, and soon
enough you can hike El Corazon.

A little history and some background on where you will be
standing:
The El Corazon property is bound by Mesa Drive to the
north, Oceanside Boulevard to the south, El Camino Real to the
west, and Rancho del Oro Drive to the east- four major
transportation arteries in the heart of Oceanside. You are at one
of those intersections.

The City of Oceanside is proposing to redevelop this 465-acre
City-owned property to contain a mixture of land uses: natural open
space (150 acres), park areas (160 acres), native open space
greenbelt (46 acres), community public use (6 acres), Senior
Citizen Center (6 acres), recreation center (6 acres), green waste
facility (16 acres), trails and pathways (9 miles),
infrastructure/other (20 acres), and commercial uses (55 acres).

A full 350 acres will be left as parkland or open space.
I love this area and have been anxiously awaiting its renewal, even
more important to me because I can see this entire property from my
house. And boy is it magnificent!
