LE TRAIN FANTÔME
Tout commence quand un ancien chef de gare de Thionville (F) me raconta cette étrange histoire…
Mai 1944 , gare de Thionville… un train est en attente sur une voie à bonne distance des quais, et un important dispositif empêche quiconque d’approcher. Plus tard nous apprendrons qu’il s’agissait d’un des nombreux trains qui servirent à transporter des œuvres d’art vers l’Allemagne ou la Suisse.
Un récent bombardement sur la frontière force le train à attendre , mais le risque important d’être découvert ou détruit oblige l’ officier responsable à déplacer le train…. Depuis cette soirée , plus personne n’a jamais revu le train.
Après guerre , des rumeurs circulèrent faisant état d’un convoi caché dans une ancienne galerie des mines luxembourgeoise … et le train « dort » encore … quelque part sous terre.
....… quelques jours plus tard , l’officier allemand fut fait prisonnier et parvint néanmoins à cacher les plans de la mine dans une boîte de munition américaine. Celle-ci fut abandonnée sur le terrain.
C’est en lisant les mémoires d’un vétéran de l’ armée américaine ,que je découvris les détails de la capture de l’ officier allemand, quelque part entre Thionville et Luxembourg. En fait la poursuite commençait à cet endroit : N 49° 25.651 E 006° 06.916
Ta mission , si tu l acceptes , est de retrouver les plans cachés par l’officier allemand pour déterminer l’endroit ou le train est caché. Bonne chasse.
Der Geisterzug
Es fing alles damit an dass der ehemalige Bahnhofsvorsteher von Thionville (FR) mir diese merkwürdige Geschichte erzählte... .
Mai 1944: Bahnhof von Thionville... ein Zug hat in gehöriger Distanz zu den Bahnsteigen angehalten, umgeben von einem beeindruckenden Aufgebot von Wachpersonal, so dass sich niemand dem Zug nähern kann. Später werden wir dann erfahren dass es sich um einen jener zahlreichen Züge handelte, welche zum Abtransport von Kunstwerken nach Deutschland oder in die Schweiz benutzt wurden.
Eine gerade eben stattgefundene Bombardierung nahe der Grenze zwingt den Zug zum Anhalten... obschon das Risiko, entdeckt oder zerstört zu werden den befehlshabenden Offizier nötigt, den Zug zu verschieben.... Seit diesem Abend wurde der Zug von niemandem mehr wiedergesehen.
Nach dem Krieg ging das Gerücht um, ein geheimer Konvoi wäre in einem verlassenen luxemburgischen Bergwerk versteckt worden... und der Zug würde dort noch immer „schlummern“ ... irgendwo unter Tage. Genaugenommen... einige Tage später geriet der deutsche Offizier in Gefangenschaft. Doch es gelang ihm, die Lagepläne des Bergwerkes in einer amerikanischen Munitionskiste zu verstecken, die dann dort auf dem Gelände zurückgelassen wurde.
Beim Lesen der Memoiren eines Veteranen der amerikanischen Armee stiess ich auf die Details der Gefangennahme des deutschen Offiziers, die irgendwo zwischen Thionville und Luxembourg stattgefunden haben muss. Damals fing die Verfolgung des Offiziers an diesen Koordinaten an: N 49° 25.651 E 006° 06.916
Ghost train
It started with a weird story that I was told by the former station master of Thonville (FR).
Mai 1944: The railway station of Thionville… a train has just stopped in a fair distance to the departure platforms, surrounded by an important number of guards denying any contact to the train to everyone. Sometimes later we would learn that is was one of the numerous trains that transported works of art to Germany or Switzerland.
Due to a recent bombing of the nearby border the train is forced to a halt… but the risk of being discovered or destroyed forces the commanding officer to displace the train… . That was the last time that the train was seen….
After the war, rumours abounded about a secret convoy being hidden in an abandoned luxemburgish mine... and that the train would still be sitting there... somewhere underground. In a matter of fact, a few days later, the German officer was taken prisoner. Even so, he managed to hide the plans of the mine in an ammunition container from the US Army, which was later abandoned on location.
It was whilst reading the memoirs of an American WWII veteran when I discovered the details of the capturing of the german officer, which occured somewhere between Thionville and Luxembourg. Back then, the tracing of the Officier started at: N 49° 25.651 E 006° 06.916
