Geocache Description:

Parking is available off the main highway.

Legend has it that Princess Minnewaska is buried here beside Chief White Bear. Minnewaska was a warrior daughter of Pauwating, who with his band was in this area to avenge the death of a fellow tribesman. Pauwating was killed and Minnewaska taken captive. Chippewa Chief White Bear eventually won her love and her hand as his wife. If you would like to see a John Mix Stanley illustration of this area from an 1853 expedition led by Isaac I. Stevens, please go to the photo gallery below. He was commissioned by Congress to survey a possible route for a rail line from St Paul to Puget Sound.

This cache was placed with the permission of the Pope County Historical Society. For more information please visit the Pope County Museum on South Lakeshore Drive in Glenwood. A unique collection of Native American arts and crafts is the highlight of the museum tour.

Also, thanks to Geomom for keeping a very close eye on the cache, if you want to say "hi", just wave.
