Middlebank Wildlife Centre was opened in 1986 with the aim to rehabilitate sick and injured wildlife casualties, and, where possible, return them back to their natural environment.
In the early days there was just one building which housed the small number of casualties being presented for treatment. Over the years, as more and more patients arrived, the premises had to be enlarged. There are now three wildfowl enclosures, 10 aviaries, two mammal pens, and a seal treatment unit. The original building has five treatment rooms and a washing room for cleaning oiled birds.
Middlebank has dealt with many oiling incidents including the 'Braer' and has also assisted other organisations with cleaning oiled birds, such as the RSPCA, USPCA and the Berwick Swan sanctuary.
There is an education unit where school children can come and learn about caring for animals. Other groups also have used this facility when they come for training, such as vet nurses and countryside rangers.
Members of the public may arrange to bring wildlife casualties to Middlebank but general visits are by appointment only.
Parking is limited but there is a small off road space for one car near the cache site. Please be careful as the road can be busy at times.
