Here is a geocache series of movies (and TV mini-series) in which some of the filming took place on or very near NM Highway 41. There have been a lot of them over the years. Some you may have seen, but never knew they were made out here. This could give you an excuse to warm up the VCR/DVD player and see what you can recognize.
41-14 White Sands (1992)
If it were not for the specific need of a "small southwestern town" as described for many, many of these movies this series would be quite small. "White Sands" added a dead body, mystery money, the CIA, the FBI, a rodeo, helicopters, and Estancia, and made a movie.
Area warnings:
1. These are easy and, hopefully, interesting fair-weather caches. Winters can be surprising and dangerous because of the snow and winds. Amazing snow drifts can quickly accumulate with great speed and ferocity.
2. If the dirt roads in the area are muddy and you cannot determine the moisture saturation level, avoid them. They have been known to eat 4WD vehicles and road graders. It can be a long and lonely walk back to the pavement.
3. There are interesting geological formations along the road in this series and they are all on private property. As tempting as it is, don't cross the fences to explore them. I've seen a lot of people escorted away.
