This is a cache inspired by Bugmann's Mile "GC190XH " near Tombstone, AZ. We drove by that cache while on vacation in February and decided it would be spectacular fun to implement something similar here in Ithaca. A CITO geocoin was launched at this cache as a gift to Team Bugmann and it would like to travel to the inspiration cache in Arizona. "Track it here."
I decided on this 2-mile stretch of road as it is both close to home and has a beautiful vista at its midpoint. As Vanelle and I were driving by while caching one day, she remarked that it was one of her favorite Ithaca views as well, so it seemed especially appropriate. So, the EH Geocachers became official and we held large CITO events here in October 2008 and May 2010. We have since switched to more frequent individual clean-ups, so when you come by, let us know how tidy or littered the roadside is!
The cache is a roadside cache and dash with parking available on the side of the road in front of the geolandmark. Do not park at the volunteer firehouse nearby. 10/26/2008 #1 CITO It was a wonderful group of 15 and the late fall weather was ideal. Everyone looked fantastic in their vests and hardhats! In all we hauled 8 large bags of garbage plus a TV, microwave, and shopping cart (Poorfarmerbob gets the largest find award for those items!). 5/1/2010 2nd CITO 32 people 12 bags, 1 bag of recyclables, TV with remote
10/08/2011 Full stretch by myself. Sylvester the cat as chef magnet was the best thing I found during my cleanup. Just two bags of trash but I expect more is hiding under the tall grass.
11/26/2011 Took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather to come out and tidy up the pigpen as the recent "additions" have been bugging me - got another garbage bag full.
