Geocache Description:

This is a simple two stage multicache that puts a twist on the way that muggles are typically viewed. Instead of trying to avoid them, you may have the opportunity to share geocaching with them.

Here’s how it works. The first location is secluded and hidden, the second is on a busy street and out in the open. The first container is small, the second is slightly bigger. The second is where you can greet muggles, the first is where you get to check out some of Astoria’s history and travel down the garden path. The second has a lock, the first has the combination. The coordinates for the final location are N46° 11.351 | W123° 49.959

The idea is simple. Muggles will have trouble stealing what is locked up. So get the combination from the first location, find the second location, unlock and do the trinket and log thing in full sight of passers-by and people looking out shop windows at you, if so inclined explain what you are doing and hand out the one-page explanation to the muggles (maybe create new cachers?).

If you love meeting people and sharing geocaching then this one is for you. I really wanted to have the two locations closer together so all could be easily done on foot, but I just couldn’t find a good spot to hide the keys that was close and besides, you’ll see why I picked the spot that I did. If you like walking, go for it, but you can easily drive very close to both locations.

The final location has room for your typical trinkets and travel bugs and has copies of the one page geocaching article that appeared in the Costco Connection. It will do a great job of explaining caching to muggles and was copied with permission from the author. Please let me know if the copies are running low and I’ll add more. If you are feeling particularly generous, there is a copy place about 1.5 blocks west that will do the job for 8 cents a copy.

Let us know if you were able to chat with any muggles and generate any interest.
