Geocache Description:

I wasn't planning on placing any caches of my own, but it seems that fate dictated otherwise when I got caught in the "crossfire" of Turf Wars. So I've placed my first cache, located at the Poestenkill Gorge in the city of Troy.
The "Poesten kill," which literally neans "foaming or puffing stream" in Dutch, powered mills in the gorge for more than 300 years. At the height of Troy's industrial period the gorge was lined with substantial manufacturing industries. You can still see remains of some of those mills today. The waterfall now, though, is in a more peaceful, secluded setting.

The gorge and falls can be viewed from a visitors lot off Linden Avenue, between Pawling and Spring Avenues, as well as from the trail that follows the stream bank. The sight of the whitewater falls against the deep black shale cliffs is impressive in times of both high water and low. The height of the falls is 175 feet, making a visit here any time of year just gorgeous.

There are sections of fence missing along the trail, so if you bring small children with you, have a care. The cache is hidden trailside - there is no need to go on the other side of the fence.
