Geocache Description:

For the Birds, El Dorado Park Series Cache. Vehicle entry fee required. Category = education

Black phoebes are year round residents of southern California. The do a feeding behavior called "sit and wait." This involves them sitting until they see an appropriate flying insect. Then they fly out and capture the meal in mid-air only to return to the perch and wait for the next unsuspecting insect to fly by.

Black phoebes are small, active birds that are usually found perched on branches, poles, or other structures. The are black with white below and can stand the feathers on top of their heads to make a crest. Both males and females are superficially identical
