Geocache Description:

The pipeline is big. The cache is not.

Start your hike at the Kenney Creek trailhead in Mueller Park, east of Bountiful (see waypoint description). There is a nominal walk-in fee to access Mueller Park, but if you tell the campground host you are hiking the Kenney Creek Trail (KCT), they should waive the fee.

This cache is hidden on the edge of the Kern River natural gas pipeline right-of-way (ROW) near the Kenney Creek Trail on Sessions Mountain. The pipeline is buried several feet underground and is not exposed, but it is a big one. Built by a big gas company in the early 90's despite strenuous opposition from local residents, it really is a big gas pipeline. It occupies a big gas right-of-way and carries big gas quantities of product from Wyoming all the way to SoCal. The whole project can only be described as big gas in every way.

There is more than one way to access the cache. You could break off the KCT after locating the Kenney Creek Cache and head straight uphill along the pipeline ROW. Or, you could continue hiking up the KCT to a point where you have gained sufficient elevation (cache is at the 7,058' level) then break off the foot trail westerly and head cross-country toward the cache. The trail option offers some shade and is somewhat less steep overall. From where this cache is hidden, you aren't too far from the Wandering Jew Mine cache. You could continue up the trail before breaking off, find the WJM cache, and perhaps also Peregrine's Perch, then locate this cache on the way back down. You could then follow the pipeline ROW down from here and re-connect with the KCT near the KC Cache.

Either way, the views are awesome. Bring plenty to drink and wear some sturdy hiking boots. A moose has been spotted in this area, so keep your eyes open and don't forget your camera. Enjoy the hike!
