will be hosting it's first Introduction to Geocaching Event on Friday, July 18th and Saturday, July 19th

As part of Parks Days 2008, (link ) we are offering a family fun time at Mira Provincial Park, where there are wonderful walking trails. As part of the Event, we are going to hide some new caches along  the trails shortly before hand for everyone to enjoy. A classroom session on Geocaching will be held at the "Friends of Mira" meeting room commencing at 7 PM Friday night for a brief discussion and then at 10 AM Saturday, lasting for approximately an hour.

Each discussion will consist of

  • What Geocaching is.

  • getting started.

  • what types of caches.

  • trading and exchanging treasures.

  • other helpful information.

Timings are as follows;

  • Friday 6 PM  demonstration,

  • Friday 7:45 PM seeking a cache,

  • Friday 09:15 PM NIGHT cache,

  • Saturday 10 AM Demonstrations

  • Saturday 11 AM seeking caches

  • Saturday 1 PM Mira River Park Geoscavenger hunt

  • Saturday 3 PM  GEOGOLF Prior to 3 PM, find a spot in the park and mark it on your GPS as a waypoint. At 3, meet at the demonstration area for an announcement of the "winning" coordinates. Whoever is closest to the prechosen secret coordinates, wins a prize.

  • Saturday Evening Fireworks, for those who are staying.

We will follow up stagunner's presentation with a quick demonstration  of how to find a cache and then exploration of the Mira Provincial Park wonderful trails in search of geocaches and other treasures. Other experienced local geocachers will be on hand for assistance.

All are welcome to join us at the 1st ever Mira Provincial Park Introduction to Geocaching.

New geocachers, old geocachers or simply anyone curious about geocaching: feel free to join us. Bring along good sturdy footwear as a pair of good hiking shoes will make the walks seem alot nicer!

(If you own a GPS Receiver bring it along, if you don't, don't worry about having a GPS ... we'll have some you can borrow during the event!)
