Geocache Description:

This cache is approximately 15 miles from the given co-ordinates to finding the cache. Along the route there are various clues to be found to give the final location. The route starts at Point and ends at Portreath.

Some background information on the area:

The Mineral Tramway takes the visitor from Hayle and Portreath to Devoran. The trails connect to other routes including The Cornish Way, the South West Coastal Footpath and historical houses such as Tehidy, once part of the estate of the Basset mining family and now a Country Park.

There is approximately 37 miles of trails for walking, cycling and horse-riding. The network of trails is free to use and open all year. It is a wonderful area to see Cornwall’s historic industrial past at the same time appreciating a bit of ‘peace and quiet’ in some very pretty countryside.

Cornwall, in the early 19th century was at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution and its engineering and mining expertise contributed to world-wide technological progress. The Great Flat Lode area is one of the world's best conserved mining landscapes. Now Mineral Tramways is officially recognised by the Council of Europe as a 'Cultural Route'.

You can approach this in a number of ways. Pack your picnic lunch and your good walking shoes and do the 15 miles in one hit (remember you've got to get back!). Or alternatively dust down the bike. At Bissoe the Bike Chain hires out bikes, including helmets and towing buggies for the little people. Dogs are welcome. For those less energetic the alternative approach is to stop near to each 'clue' and do it in bite size chunks. There are stop off places on the way for refreshments etc.

The area is full of wildlife, if you note anything of interest or manage to get some good photies please post them.

The cache is a 0.4 ltr screwtop tub with log book and swops and a silver threepenny piece for the first to find. Parents, please watch your children are safe in the area, especially the final location.
