The view from here is incredible. It may make you want to find a place to hollow out and stay for a while.
The way up is rather steep in places and can be treacherous if wet. Use the various hand-holds along the way, branches, roots, and rocks. When the wind blows, and it often does the intensity can push you to the ground. Use some sense and the proper gear and the area is a nice place to visit. This cache is named for a boy's adventure tale and the cache contains toys for teens and the young at heart. If you have never read the book it is a classic tale of coming of age and this cache is a worthy hike for those wanting to climb a mountain.
Take your time and enjoy the trip up and down. Bring your raincoat/windbreaker as the wind does blow here. Please watch your footing and use the handholds as you will need them. The trip can take from 20 minutes to 4 hours depending on your health and skill level.
Park at the Rainbow Trail head parking just off the highway and walk on up, or for a longer hike park at the McHugh Creek lower parking area and walk from McHugh Creek. Please stay on the public side of the gate as there is a private subdivision in the midst of the trail area.
Bring a picnic and stop for lunch. This could be a resting area for another cache on the peak of Rainbow.
Bring your camera and enjoy the view.
This cache will be incredibly difficult in the winter, most likely 5 stars or better for terrain and much harder in difficulty. It is not recommended to be sought after in the winter months.
