LLKD-74 The Long And The Short Of
It
Getting ready
for our summer vacation that will include lots of hiking both on
trails and on the beach. Decided today would be a good day to
be near the water as the temperature was in the 90's. Dropped
a car at Short Beach and drove over to Long Beach; both in
Smithtown. Took the three and change mile hike on the large
expanse of rocky north shore beach.
Was greeted at
Long Beach with Mothra (Polyphemus Moth) waiting to use the lady's
room. After pictures and everyone staring for a while it was
time to go. My son found a glass insulator from a telephone
pole, circa 1901, neatly buried in the sand. I found a likely
looking spot nearby to drop the cache after extricating it with
him.
Cache is a Snap n' Lock
in a classic, fallen hide a little up from the roots but the
tree is a little out of place. Although we hiked between
the Smithtown beaches, you may find it more desirable to park
at the David Weld Sanctuary and walk down to the beach and
then east. Whatever way you choose, please rehide better than
you find.
