Geocache Description:

This cache is quite near to the oddest location for a picnic table that I have ever seen. Why is there a picnic table here? There is no need to search the area immediately by the picnic table (i.e under the old railway) as the cache is not there.

The Horwich Jerk was the train that used to run between Blackrod and Horwich. For more pictures and information about it, see here . It would have passed right over the aforementioned picnic table!

Now the train has gone its a very lonely spot. Its not obvious where the path is from the parking coordinates. On the main road turn left and immediatley you will go over a bridge above the current railway line and then another over the old dissused line. At the end of this you will see "stinky bridge" which carries the M61 and it will be very apparent how it comes by this name. Here you will see a break in the fence (N53 35.528 W 2 33.964) with some steps leading down to the route of the old railway line.

Take some sandwiches if you like for your picnic!
