Einangsteinen, fra rundt år 300 e.Kr., er den eldste runesteinen i
Nordvest-Europa som står på sin opprinnelige plass.
Dating back to around 300AD, the Einang Stone is the oldest runic
stone in north-western Europe still standing on its original
site.
Einangsteinen står på Gardbergfeltet i Vestre Slidre,
som er et område på mer enn 2 km2 med mange gravrøyser og 900 funn
fra romersk jernalder og fram mot vikingtid. (ca 800 e.Kr.f)
Området har også spor etter den enorme jernutvinningen som fant
sted i Valdres før, under, og etter vikingtida.
Det finnes kanskje 1000 gravrøyser på feltet, men bare 550 er
undersøkte.

The Einang Stone stands on the Gardberg site in Vestre
Slidre.
The place is of great archeological variety, and contain a thousand
burial mounds.
And more than 900 finds date back to a period strecthing from the
Roman Iron Age up towards the Viking Age (800AD).
