Geocache Description:

Hales Green is one of the largest of the many “Greens” in South Norfolk located to the west of the A146. The Green at just under 76 acres (30.752 hectares) is a wide, open area of lowland grassland with groups of scrub and a series of ponds

I would like to thank Mr. M Bentley conservation manager of (S.N.C) and his Head Ranger for Giving Me Permission to place a cache on this common please check the Notice Board and observe the country code

Management of the common is by cattle grazing which has helped to maintain the wildlife interest of the site and has been responsible for the development of a close grazed sward which is in certain areas rich with wild flowers
Unimproved grassland is a scarce resource nationally and particularly in South Norfolk with its majority of well managed arable farms. The Green is an important wildlife reservoir. A recent survey, has recorded over 116 species of plants. Spiny-rest-harrow and stemless thistle are two unusual plans which are present on the Green and there are shallow ponds, particularly against the eastern boundary, provide an additional wildlife interest and are often visited by shellduck among other species of duck.

PLEASE LEAVE THE CACHE WELL COVERED AND SECURED

PLEASE KEEP DOGS ON A LEAD AT ALL TIMES AS THERE ARE CATTLE GRAZING ON THE COMMON

PLEASE NOTE CATTLE WITH CALVES CAN BE VERY PROTECTIVE AND SHOULD NOT BE APPROACHED

ACCESS TO THE COMMON IS VIA THE A146 AT WASH LANE PLEASE RESPECT THE GRAZING AND WILDLIFE BY PARKING ON THE GRASSED VERGES OF THE COMMON ONLY AND NOT ON THE TRACK PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY.

I RECOMMEND PARKING AT N52-30-643 E001-29-920 WHICH IS ALSO THE START OF THE WALK ALLOW ABOUT 1-I/2 HOURS AS IT’S ABOUT 2-1/2 MILES CIRCULAR WALK

TIP (wellies may be needed) DUE TO LONG GRASS AND NO DIRECT PATHWAY OVER THE COMMON AT THIS POINT
