SDSightseer: Perfect Fall day to hike this trail. These caches have lasted since 2008! (Only 2 suffered burns!
Congrats to Dakota Dave in a FTF 6/24/08. Many good finds and fotos by local cachers. I am surprised by the many hardy hikers from other states who inked the log book too.
There was a crew with chain saws cleaning up burned and deadfall pines into slash piles at the edge of the sandstone ridge overlooking the interstate.

Geocache Description:

There are three hides along the high sandstone ridge (hogback) between Alkali Creek TH and the Ft. Meade Road. I’ve named them after three prominent women who played a variety of roles in the early days of the Black Hills. Please sign the log to claim the find.

Starting at the Alkali Creek TH look for the signs for Trail # 89 _ The Centennial Trail. Once on top enjoy views of I-90, the National Cemetery, Bulldog Gulch, Deadman Mt. and Veteran’s Peak to the west. * Martha Jane Cannary accompanied the Jenney-Newton Geological Expedition to the Black Hills in 1875. She joined General George Crook’s Expedition against the Lakota in February 1876, and a second Crook-led expedition that same spring. Upon arriving in Deadwood in July of 1876,she worked as a prostitute and dance hall girl. She claimed to be Wild Bill Hickok’s lover. Calamity Jane died in Terry, a small mining town near Deadwood, on August 1, 1903. She is buried in Deadwood’s Mount Moriah Cemetery next to Wild Bill Hickok.
