Geocache Description:

Cache and Dash or Park and Wander, Small lock lock box with room for log and pencil and small swaps, near Purton Weir Pond.

The Pond used to be clearer and has overgrown down the years, there was once amoungst the overgrowth an area that was refered to as "The Beach". But all the same if one has the time to look there is a thriving wildlife community. Take care as you walk along the road. From the Southerly end of the Weir Pond a footpath runs to the East that will take you towards another local cache in Dingle Wood. If you take the Path to the West you can walk across the pleasent fields behind Braden Forest School.
Please take care to replace the Cache exactly as you found it for the next Cacher to find.
You can see the deterioration of the Pond over time from pictures from 1910 onwards. These and more are available at these websites: (visit link)

Parking is by the Tithe Barn and from here it is only yards to the Church, (well worth a wander around) so parking can be full during service times.
Purton has an unusual church, St Mary the Virgin, the nave dates from the 12th century. In the 15th century the West tower was built on, making St. Mary's Church unique amongst English churches, in having central tower and spire as well as a Western tower. This is one of only three parish churches in England that has both a spire and a tower.
