Geocache Description:

Rienzi Cemetery was established by Wisconsin Territorial Governor Nathaniel Potter Tallmadge at the time of the death of his son in 1845. The body of his son occupies the first grave in Rienzi Cemetery. Tallmadge originally set aside eight acres of his farm for the cemetery which has now expanded into a 100 acre beautifully hilly, tree shaded site in the Town of Empire. Tallmadge named the cemetery after famous Roman Patriarch named Cola di Rienzi.

The initial coordinates will take you a monument erected for Civil War General Edward S Bragg who also served in Congress and was a brilliant Fond du Lac attorney.

To find the first cache you will need to complete the following coordinates
N43 45.ABC
W088 22.XYZ

ABC=the year the Civil War started minus 1189
XYZ=the year the Civil War ended minus 934

As this is classified as a cemetery cache please note it is NOT hidden on any grave marker or site. If there is a service going on, or folks are visiting their loved ones when you arrive please be respectful and come back at a later time.

The cache has been approved by Diane Bunger/Family Service Director at Rienzi Cemetery.

Please note the hours of operation when entering the cemetery. The gate automatically opens/closes and if you get caught in the cemetery you may have to spend the night there.
