Geocache Description:

Gilligan's Island was one of the most famous TV shows to be filmed in Hawaii. While most of the earlier episodes were filmed on Kauai and later in a fake lagoon off the Hollywood Freeway, the beginning of the show highlights two well known landmarks on Oahu. The harbor the boat is shown pulling out of is Mamala Bay or better known as Honolulu Harbor. The island shown in the distance in the opening is "Coconut Island" or Mokuoloe located in Kaneohe Bay.

The plot of the show revolves around the shipwrecked castaways attempts to leave the uncharted deserted island and there is never a shortage of opportunities and plots to do so. However, these efforts typically failed as a result of some bumbling error committed by Gilligan. Sometimes his goofs managed to save the others from some unforeseen flaw in their plan, as in the episode "Splashdown", where an unmanned space capsule with sensitive technology lands in the lagoon. Gilligan allows the other castaways to talk over him, failing to inform them in time that the capsule floated away. As the group yells at Gilligan for his "error", the capsule is blown up by NASA via remote control.

Another such episode is "Goodbye Island" while looking for tree sap for Mary Ann's pancakes, Gilligan discovers a very strong glue-like substance that the Professor believes, because it is strong and waterproof, is permanent, and therefore can be used to repair the damage to the SS Minnow, their shipwrecked boat. In the usual and predictable fashion things go south with this plan as Gilligan later discovers that the substance is not permanent at all; when the castaways do not heed his warnings, the boat starts to break apart humorously until it is completely destroyed.
