Roundhay Historical Trail 2 Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

SpikyTyke: It has been my pleasure to look after an elderly relative for the last 2 years - however I haven't found the time to either go geocaching or maintain the caches I have. Unfortunately therefore I am archiving all my caches. I hope to be able to come back to caching at some point. Best wishes to all.

Geocache Description:

All walking on pavements/roads.

The above co-ords are not for the cache – they are for the first location where to start gathering clues. The co-ords for the cache are N53 49.ABC W001 29.DEF

It will help to read the information on (visit link) before visiting the locations as this will enhance your understanding of the area and also confirm that you are at the correct locations.

At the first location you should be opposite a 6’ high wall, very overgrown. This boundary wall used to be the outer wall of the first church in Roundhay, a Wesleyan Chapel, built in 1805. Look for the letters 'BT' carved in something. Carved beneath is '9M' then '9a' then 'bc' (where a, b & c have been substituted for actual numbers. B=b+c, C=a+b+c, E=b-c, F=a-b.

When the 1st Chapel became too small a 2nd Chapel was built, also on North Lane, of which there are no remains. Following the death of the owners of the 2nd Chapel building, the Methodists were evicted and land was purchased for a 3rd Chapel.

The location of the 3rd Chapel can be seen on the right at the second location (see interim waypoint – up North Lane and next left after St John’s School - on Springwood Road) – it is now the Manor warden scheme residence. How many large trees front onto Springwood Road from inside the Manor? = A.

The 4th Chapel, the current home of both Roundhay Methodists and St John’s CofE Church, is on the left. There is an item near the door with 3 numbers on it – D=number less 101.

The route is now available via www.walkjogrun.co.uk (visit link)
