Short relatively level hike along the River
I placed this cache because it is one of the best areas along the Ausable to view active beavers and nesting Blue Herons, along with many other species of birds, frogs, chipmunks and snakes.
Shortly after you begin your hike you will reach a wooden bridge. At this bridge spend some time to enjoy the views of a pond that was formed due to the beavers blocking up a stream coming down from Whiteface mountain. If you visit early in the morning and later in the evening you will have your best chance to see the beavers in action. There are about 4 beaver houses in this pond. If you also look closely towards the back of the pond up in the tops of the trees you will see 5 Blue Heron nests. If you are visiting in the spring and early summer you will see the Herons and the babies in the nests. If you are visiting at other times of the year you will see many other types of birds as this is a popular spot.
After taking in the beauty of this spot continue along the trail which parallels the West Branch of the Ausable River. You should see plenty of fisherman in the water as this is a very popular spot.
The final location of the Cache is away from the river and you should find it a very nice area. If you feel like lengthing your hike there is another cache (Kids Campus at Whiteface) which can be accessed following the trail along the River.
