This fairly easy cache is hidden on the site of a former chalk pit near Otford Station.
Chalk was dug here from about 1870 to make lime by the Otford Lime Company and records from 1882 show it provided employment for fifteen workers from the village. The lime kilns and a railway siding were situated to the east of the station where the Scout Hut now stands.
It appears that by 1896 the site was no longer used as it is described as the “old chalk pit” on a large scale ordnance survey map of that year.
Nowadays it is a playing field surrounded by trees.
