Geocache Description:

An easily accessible cache profiling an East County bike path.

San Diego County is one of the best areas in the country to ride bicycles. Our pleasant year-round climate, varied terrain, and hundreds of miles of bike lanes, paths and trails contribute to an ideal biking environment. To profile some of these bike paths, this geocache series was developed. The selected bike paths are completely separate right-of-ways for the exclusive use of non-motorized travel so pull out those bikes for a healthy, “green”, and fun way to geocache.

The first bike path in the series is the pedestrian/bike path that arose from the Forester Creek Improvement Project. This drainage channel was widened and developed to allow improved flood control and better water quality draining into the San Diego River. The bike path runs along the channel and provides a nearly traffic-free conduit from the Gillespie Field Trolley Stop to Mission Gorge Road. In addition to this cache, there are four other caches along this path making it a “target rich” environment.

On street parking is available near the cache. Alternate parking is available the Gillespie Field Trolley Station near the entrance to the southern part of the bike path at N 32 49.665 W 116 59.042.
