Before 2008 draws to a close the woodcutter needs to hold her
annual geocache bash. We've searched high and low for an
appropriate place finally discovering the Whitetail Group Camp area
on Mt. Lemmon. It's new, it's perfect, it's big, and now it's
reserved! Please do not arrive prior to 1:00 p.m. Spend the morning
caching on the mountain. Parking is tight so carpooling is
suggested. No trailers in the group area.
Happenings
- Arrival and sign in 1:00-2:00
- Travel Bug Exchange
- Cache for kids? Still working on this one
- Bring some geoswag to put in caches to raffle off.
- Poker Run- Coordinates given out at 2:00. You must turn
in your poker hand to Woodcutter’s better half prior to 4:00. We
need some judges for the poker run? Volunteers. Best hands will
have first choices from the prize table.
- Find the Lemon-Yes, the woodcutter has been making a
special commemorative woodcut piece for this Bash. I’m not handing
them out…you have to go and find it! Coordinates given when you
turn in your poker hand.
- Find the Purple Elephant Game-If you’ve never played
this before this is how it goes: Trusty Companion stakes a stuffed
Purple Elephant out somewhere where the GPS numbers are flickering.
Upon your arrival, you’ll be given a 3x5 card to write the
coordinates you figure out that the Purple Elephant is staked out.
You must also sign your team name on this card. Turn the card into
Sneakiekittie or Woodcutter. At 4:00, we’ll mix up the cards and
pass them back out, along with a flag. The new team to receive your
card will sign their name to it and then go plant the flag. Teams
closer to the Elephant will receive a prize but not the
Elephant!
- Prizes 4:30-4:45ish. If anyone cares to make a donation
to the prize table, please let woodcutter know.,
- Pot-luck Dinner-Dinner at 5:30. Please email woodcutter
and tell me what you are bringing so I can add it to this list.

Amenities
- This campground is for groups only. The gate is always closed.
When you get to it, you open the gate and proceed to the area,
remembering to close the gate after you.
- Ramada, bathrooms, fire pit area, and the one lower tent pad
are all handicap accessible.
- Water, electricity, and lights at the
ramada
- Covered ramada containing 10 tables: 7 large picnic and 3 food
prep. I still recommend you bring a chair especially to sit around
the campfire in
- 3 bear proof food lockers
- 6 large charcoal barbeques
- Lots of pine trees
- Only 16 real parking spaces but people can park on the side of
the road in the loop provided a vehicle passage is always
available. (You might want to carpool) I’m also suggesting that we
may need to have some people park at nearby parking areas, if you
have a pass, and ferry into our area in groups.
- Only tent camping is allowed. No motorhomes or
pop-ups.
Fees are already paid if you are only going straight to our
event. Straight up and down with no stops (this includes the
camping fee at Whitetail for Saturday night until Sunday morning at
11:00). If you are going to cache on Mt. Lemmon before or after the
event, you must pay the $5 Forest Service fee or have an annual
Forest Service pass.
