Geocache Description:

(This) Ka'a'awa Beach is situated in one of Oahu's very historic areas. The valley behind is also one of Oahu's most beautiful - still mostly untouched by modern development.

In ancient times, this valley and beach were considered to be sacred places on Oahu and the training grounds for the children of the most powerful of ali'i. Those chiefly offspring were trained in the traditions and arts of war... and leadership.

It is said that the bones of more than four hundred chiefs are buried in the caves above Kualoa Ranch. O.A. Bushnell's novel Ka'a'awa is an excellent resource for information.

It is an area steeped in legend. It is said to be home to night-marchers - the ghosts of dead chiefs and their warriors who proceed nightly from their burial caves to the sea.

Ka'a'awa is also said to be a place of refuge where the condemned could find safety. If they reached there before the sentence was instituted, so shows mercy also.

Then there's the modern history...
The Morgan family has rightfully owned much land of the area. And in my opinion has done an incredible job at keeping many permanent structures out of existence on this pristine piece of Earth. Lots of movies and TV shows shot here or sequences at least. Tourist attractions of ATV- horseback- off road buses- gun range- party venues and more...

It's a nice swimming beach, with usually not many folks around.
Come and enjoy! Be careful of the traffic if crossing the road!

Please always CITO and write if you did! Mahalos.
