In 1988, the then Ballan Shire placed 16 brass plaques around the Shire for the Australian Bicentennial. Most commemorate the original settlers of each area. I hope to set up a cache starting at each plaque if I can find them all. This is the first of the series. I hope you find the history of the area interesting.
This cache is fairly close to the plaque as surrounding areas are being regenerated. It is a small camouflaged screw top container. Original contents are a log, pencils, a few toys and a keyring. There is another cache not too far away that you might want to look for during the same visit. When you get to the plaque answer the following questions: 1.In what year did the Major chose his selections? = ABCD 2.Hugh settled on the banks of the river in the early ????'s = ABEF 3.In what year was rich gold struck at Dolly's Creek? = ABGH 4."Morrisons Diggings" township was established in the ????'s = ABHI Cache is located at S 37° ED.FH(C-A) E 144° IH.(D-G)(A+B)E
