Geocache Description:

This is a waterproof match container that you can drive to in your automobile and park within 10 feet. There are interesting things to look at and the site is informational. You may find this hide challenging.

As the immigrants moved west on the Oregon Trail, this is one of the last places on the trail that almost everyone stopped. From here, the trail could divide into trails that were thought to be the shortest and easiest routes to the west coast. These trails were known by the names of the expedition leaders, Meek, Elliot and Macy. This cache is located near Vale, OR., and the town is known for a number of things. It is the county seat of Malheur county & hosts a famous 4th of July rodeo. One of the events of the rodeo is the "suicide race". The horsemen start at the top of Vale Butte and race down the steep mountain, cross the Malheur River and end the race at the rodeo arena. There are also 27 murals that have been painted by professional artists and give an insight to the area's Oregon Trail heritage. The mural project began in 1992 and now consists of the 27 murals & 4 "sculptures". The cache consists of a small container with only a log. Bring your own pen or pencil & please be careful in replacing the cache.
