Once many years ago a family of Giant marmots lived in this valley. Then the valley was large and full of tall grass.
The Marmots had no problem providing food for the long winters.
One cold winter a glacier moved in the valley and when it retreated it left the valley full of large boulders.
With the valley covered with these boulders the marmots couldn't gather enough food. The head marmot told the family to gather the rocks and put them in a huge pile.
This took all summer and the family of Giant Marmots didn't survive the winter because they spent all summer collecting rocks.
So today , we have a large pile of rocks but sadly no Giant marmots.
The cache is an ammo can. It is at the TOP and is surrounded by three large rocks. The opening to the cache faces north.
Please leave the cache as you find it so that marmots will not move it, and it will be equally as difficult for other cachers.
The elevation is about 11,453 feet. It is about a two hour hike from any direction.
You can approach this cache from 360 degrees. I prefer coming from the west side along the ridge.
