Geocache Description:

Nano, yes a nano, hidden on a popular structure seen throughout the older neighborhoods in DC.

This is a cache in a series to get people to explore/discover the "new and improved" Riverfront District area and the Historic Capital Hill District in SE DC.

On a public structure on the edge of a small public park located caddy-corner across from the historic Marine Corps Barracks at one of the well known '8th and Eye' corners. Throughout the city these structures are painted blue, brown or their original red. Calling Unit 18!

Established in 1801, Marine Barracks, Washington, D.C., is the "Oldest Post of the Corps" and has been the residence of every Commandant of the Marine Corps since 1806. The selection of the site for the barracks was a matter of personal interest to President Thomas Jefferson, who rode through Washington with Lieutenant Colonel Commandant Burrows in search of a suitable location. The site now occupied was approved since it lay near the Navy Yard and within easy marching distance of the Capitol.

This is a very high-muggle area due to the shops and eating establishments along 8th St SE. On Friday nights in the summer, the muggle activity increases significantly due to the popular evening parade and silent drill held at the Marine Corps Barracks nearby.

NOT directly accessible from I295/395/SouthEast Freeway. Must be on 8th or I/Eye Street to access this cache.
