I enjoyed the ridge where I placed my "View # ?" cache so much,
that I decided to add another one up here. This time I was eager to
head SE towards the higher peaks. Now it appears that the Heart
Lake trailhead is for sure the best approach. Follow the trail out
of the Coldwater parking lot. At some point there is a fork in the
trail that heads NW not SE towards Heart Lake. You want to take the
NW route which eventually fades out, but that's OK at that point
the vegetation is sparse enough you can pick your way through to
the top of the ridge. From there you are on your own, it's very
open country. If I remember right the elevation at the cache is
over 11,000'. Be very carefull of loose rock near the cache. This
type of rock is razor sharp, if you fall could get cut deep. Enjoy
your hike and always bring lots of water, there is none up on the
ridge.
Who will be the Hearty Hiker to be FTF? The usual suspects,
Ranboze, Tom4Props, Slegal? This one should be just in time for the
4th of July crowd.
