Geocache Description:

This journey takes you to a scenic overlook of McDonough Reservoir just off the Tunxis trail.

The 446-acre Lake McDonough is located south of Saville Dam in Barkhamsted.

An impoundment was constructed at the south end of the lake in 1920 and became known as Richards Corner Dam. The Richards Corner Inn once stood there. Captain Aaron Richards (1749 – 1831) served in the War of the Revolution and later was proprietor of the inn. His son, Miles, also lived there.

This cache can also be done at night; sunsets over the lake can be quite spectacular. Be sure to bring a flashlight and start from the parking coordinates. The trail to the cache area is well-marked; bushwhacking is not required. Wise cachers wear blaze orange during hunting season. As always, enjoy the adventure!
