Day in the Delta

Join us for a day of food, fun, finds and excellent company in the California Delta.

Located along the convergence of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers, the “Gateway to the Delta” is a geocache rich area with plenty of recreational excursions (fishing, boating, water sports, hiking, regional parks).

Come spend your day finding the diverse caches in and around the area. Whether you enjoy multies that lead you on a hike, large caches full of awesome swag, travel bug & geocoin hotels or clever micros, the Delta has something for all.

Our day will begin with a pre-event warm up: a mild hike around Contra Loma Reservoir. We will meet at 8:30 AM in the parking lot of the Antioch Community Park/Worth Shaw Sports Complex located on James Donlon Road in Antioch at N 37* 58.769 W 121* 49.229. From there we will take a mild hike around the park and up the short (but steep) hill to Contra Loma finding caches along our route. The hill rates about a ‘3’ terrain, but is only about 100 feet high. We’ll take that part very slow (you can also bike this) The hike should only take 1-1 ½ hours depending on how slow or fast we walk. Our hike is just a fun way to help fill your day, giving you another reason to come to the delta for tonights event. This hike is optional, and will provide you with first chance to find a few newly placed caches with new friends. Afterward we will part ways and regroup later.

And what could be better after a long day of caching and finding several newly placed caches? Sharing your tales and adventures with other geocachers over food and drink, that’s what. Our evening will provide many opportunities to meet new friends and ‘geotalk’. We’ve prepared door prizes, swag bags (TBD), a hitchhiker swap and a “Thieving Muggle Exchange*”.

At 5:00 PM we will meet again for the actual event at Skipilini’s Pizza located at 901 Fitzuren Road, Antioch: N 37* 59.863 W 121* 49.068. Be sure to sign our log book as you arrive and trade out any hitchhikers you’ve brought with you. Trades will be done on a one to one basis. Also at that time you will receive your swag bag (TBD) and a ticket for our doorprizes. Plus you can drop off your “geo item” for our “Thieving Muggle Exchange”.

• We are asking each person to bring a ‘geo’ related item for the Thieving Muggle Exchange. It may be new, recently loved or custom made, with a value no greater than $10.00. Custom made caches are especially encouraged. Please decoratively wrap or bag your item to retain its secrecy.

The annual Delta Blues Festival will be happening in downtown Antioch while Oakley is having its annual Almond Festival.
